Books I'm Waiting For…

I’ve had lots of inspiration from other bloggers lately. I just can’t think of post ideas myself, so I borrow them from everyone else :p Today’s post is borrowed from Deslily who wrote down many of the books that she is waiting for to come available. Here’s what I’m waiting for.

1. Who Killed Amanda Palmer – photos with stories by Neil Gaiman. Seriously, this one looks so damn good. It’s a collection of photos of Amanda Palmer, the gorgeous frontwoman of The Dresden Dolls, dead with stories to accompany them by Neil Gaiman. This book goes with her amazing new solo album, aptly named “Who Killed Amanda Palmer.”I think it’s slated for release around June/July.

2. Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman – I read about this one on The Story Siren’s website and put it onto the wishlist…sounds really good! (released on April 16th)

3. The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo – Nymeth told me about this one! I didn’t even know about it! I’ve been waiting for DiCamillo to release something new for ages. Looks like I still have to wait until September 8th for this one though.

4. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins – The much awaited sequel to the Hunger Games! I wish this book would just show up in my mailbox now. Really, Scholastic, really πŸ˜‰ If it doesn’t, I’ll have to wait until September 1st.

5. Baba Yaga Laid an Egg by Dubravka Ugresic – This one is a new book in the Canongate Myth series and sounds really good! I love Baba Yaga stories. It comes out on May 21st.

6. Sandman: Dream Hunters by Neil Gaiman and P. Craig Russell – This is one of my favorite Neil Gaiman graphic novels..the Yoshitaka Amano version, that is. Now, P. Craig Russell is reinterpreting it! It’ll be released on October 13th.

7. The Eternal Smile: Three Stories by Gene Luen Yang – Another one that Nymeth told me about. Since I read American Born Chinese, I’ve been craving some more Yang…I’ll have my wishes granted on April 28th!

8. Her Fearful Symmetry: A Novel by Audrey Niffenegger – Quite possibly the novel that I’m anticipating the most and fearful for the most of all of the books on this list. I fell in love with The Time Traveler’s Wife right away. I can’t wait to see what she does with this book! Comes out on September 29th!

9. The Uninvited by Tim Wynne-Jones – I heard about this one on Tempting Persephone’s blog. Does anyone know if he’s related to Diana Wynne-Jones? Either way, it looks good! And scary! It’ll be released on May 12th…the day after my bday!

10. Absolute Death by Neil Gaiman – Yes it’s pricey…very pricey, but I want it so bad! I have the first volume of The Absolute Sandman and it’s just gorgeous. I would love to have this collection too. Comes out October 20th.

11. Crazy Hair by Neil Gaiman – Another fantastic Gaiman/McKean picture book collaboration in the spirit of The Wolves in the Walls and The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish. It comes out on May 26th!

12. Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix – I loved the first book in this series, Found. It’s a fantastic YA series that I think everyone would enjoy. Comes out on August 25th.

13. Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? by Neil Gaiman – Another one that I really can’t wait for. Neil Gaiman’s turn to play author at the Batman series! The trade is released on July 7th.

14. Love Begins in Winter: Five Stories by Simon Van Booy – So excited about this one! Simon’s writing is just amazing. I read The Secret Lives of People in Love last year and thought it was perfect. It also comes out on May 12th!

15. Mouse Guard Volume 2: Winter 1152 by David Petersen – The art in this book is quite possibly the best I’ve seen in a graphic novel. And the story is just as good. Sadly, it looks like the publication date of this one has now been pushed back to July 26th, 2010 😦

So that’s enough for now! Am I missing anything here guys? I’m looking forward to Orson Scott Card’s The Lost Gate too, but nothing is ever on Amazon except for the audio book. What are you waiting for?

Now I’ll go respond to some comments. It’s quite possible that I’ll post a book review later…if not tonight, then tomorrow. And then for the Sunday Salon, I’m thinking of revealing the options for the 24 hour read a thon. Yes, I went against what I said earlier and made a list/stack :/

  1. Such good choices! I wouldn’t mind if Catching Fire showed up on my doorstep either. And there seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding Her Fearful Symmetry! I’m so excited. I also love the Time Traveler’s Wife. Great list!

  2. I really really want the Neil & Amanda book, but I worry I won’t get one because they’re limited and everyone wants one. Let’s make a deal: the moment I hear about the pre-order I tell you, and if you hear first, you tell me, okay?

Amanda IS gorgeous. Have I told you I met her once? She’s so sweet too.

I saw some images from the P. Craig Russell Dream Hunters the other day (I can’t remember where…should have saved the link), and wow, they were gorgeous. I didn’t quite know what to think when I first heard about it because the Amano version is perfect, and why redo perfection? But this is its own thing, and it’s going to be awesome too. I bet different art will change the mood of the story, but that’s part of what makes it interesting.

I wondered about Tim Wynne-Jones too a while back, and from what I found out, no relation πŸ˜›

  3. If it isn’t Nymeth it’s you! Between the two of you I’m going to be living in my shed, while my house is filled with books! Hmm let’s see #1 and #8 are must haves, and #10 is “I’ll sell my firstborn to have” lol. At first I wasn’t so into the Gaiman Absolutes but have I got a once in my lifetime story for you:

I happened to go into a little corner store downtown for a pack of gum and *gasp-shock-drool* there on a shelf beside the counter was a brand spanking new copy of Absolute Sandman V1. So I asked in my most pleading-est fangirl way if I could take a look at it – cool-50yo-emo-guy behind counter says “oh you like Neil eh?” and hands it to me. While I lovingly caress the beautiful hardcase (while inner fangirl menacingly mutters “my precioussss”) emo-counter-guy tries to hide a smirk. As I’m trying to devise my escape from the store with my precioussss the uber-super-emo-counter-god says “you can have it for $25” (o.O) My response, “Whaaaa, really, you’re not shitting me are you? Cause I may be short but I will kick your ass!” He just laughs and says “no joke, I can tell you would appreciate it, and I got it from a guy who was just trying to pay off his DVD porn late fees.” LMMFAO!! Best Day Ever πŸ˜›

  4. I loved Time Traveler’s Wife! One of my most favorite books of all time. I’m excited that her new book is coming out. Thanks for the heads up.

  5. I echo your feelings on the Niffenegger. That is going to come loaded with some pretty high expectations.

Definitely will pick up Crazy Hair and Absolute Death has already been ordered through the comic shop. Cannot wait for it.

Love the Kate DiCamillo is coming out with a new book, her novels are such a treat even though the take me on a roller coaster emotionally.

Looking forward to Mouse Guard as well. It has seemingly taken forever for this volume to come out!

  6. Oh just what I needed.. to add to my wish list! I added The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo .. can’t begin to thank you son!

Joanne# sounds like she is turning into Elinor from Inkheart! LOL.. what a great story about getting Absolute Sandman!!! LOL..

  7. Joanne’s story is the best story EVAH πŸ˜€ That’s just beyond awesome.

Chris, got a new one for you: Pictures that Tick

  8. oh bloody hell christ! now i want half of these too! especially the gaiman ones…! πŸ˜€

    thanks for the heads up!

  9. Yeah, just a little bit evil here…posting all this lusciousness here for us to all drool over. Making sure that we’ll all be parting with some cold hard cash as well in the months to come.

Good for you, Nymeth…make his looooonger! I KNOW you just got him to add Pictures that Tick. (Of course, there is the problem that you may just have made others want it, too πŸ˜‰ )

  10. I think I am sick. Normally I would have a very similar list, but I am on this whole no book buying thing, so really… I am just pretending that I don’t have a list!

You are going to want the new Fables book when you finish the rest, you know. πŸ™‚ And, when you work your way through the Patricia Briggs books, she has two new ones out this summer. (Graphic novel and the new book in the Alpha & Omega series).

The Audrey Niffenegger is just a given for me. Quite the coincidence that the year I decide to reread her first book she releases another! Posts like this make me glad that I am not as much of a Gaiman fan as you other folks. lol

  11. Psst! I’ve given you an award.

  12. I am going to do a post like this soon and it will most definitely include Catching Fire!!

  13. I’ve added Hunger Games on my TBR list because of you. Bad blogger! And now the second book is coming out.

I didn’t love Time Traveler’s Wife all that much, just because a little of the writing felt contrived. But overall, it was a very entertaining read, and I’m definitely curious about her next book!

If I made a list, it would include Dave Eggers’s novelization of Where the Wild Things Are. πŸ˜€

  14. Lu, Wouldn’t it be fantastic if it just showed up? lol…I can’t wait for Her Fearful Symmetry! It’s going to be fantastic!

Nymeth, You are the absolute worst bad blogger of them all!!! You know the McKean book went right on my wishlist πŸ˜‰ I hope it’s released in the US or on BookDepository though so that I can get a decent price on shipping. I wouldn’t worry about the Amanda Palmer book. Everyone’s freaking out about it it seems, but I’m sure there will be copies available. I would pre order it though to be safe πŸ˜‰ I doubt all 10,000 copies will run away! Though you never know…I’ll be preordering mine too just to be safe though πŸ˜‰ And glad to hear that she’s as cool in person as she is online and in her music!

Joanne, First of all, I’m going to tell your firstborn that you are selling him for Absolute Death πŸ˜‰ LOL!! That is the best story ever!!! Don’t you wish that would happen with all FOUR volumes? lol. I got the first one on ebay for $50 and I thought that was a deal, but wow! $25? You can’t beat that!

Colin, Isn’t that awesome news? I can’t wait for HFS to come out!! It’s going to be good…I just know it…

Carl, Ooooh, you pre-ordered Absolute Death already? That’s exciting!!! I can’t wait to get that one! DiCamillo’s books put me onto an emotional rollercoaster too and I doubt this one will be an exception. the art looks really good for this one too! Have you seen any of it? Have you read any of mouse guard since the last trade? I really need to start a folder again at the comic store!

Deslily, Sorry :p It looks like a really cool book though! Somehow I knew that as soon as you that that one was being released you were going to add it to your wishlist :p

JP, Don’t the Gaiman books all look great? He has a non-fic book that he’s working onright now too! I can’t wait to check that one out.

Debi, You can’t blame just me :p Like you said, Nymeth is very much to blame as well, lol. Doesn’t that McKean book look awesome!

Kailana, Maybe you’re sick, but it’s a healthy sickness! I need to catch that disease, lol. I just saw the Fables book! I definitely want that one, but I have to read the other 9 or so books in the series first :p I’m super excited about Niffenegger!

Jeane, Thank you! I just saw that!!

Lenore, Ooooh, I can’t wait to read it! I love reading other people’s posts like this.

Claire, You’re in for a big treat with Hunger Games! It’s super fantastic. I’ve heard the same complaint from others too about The Time Traveler’s Wife. I was a total sucker for that one though! Oooh Oooh Ooooh I totally forgot about Egger’s Where the Wild Things Are…*off to add to wishlist*
