Mailbox Monday and Bad Bloggers!

Bad Bloggers is a meme in which we blame everyone else for our book buying/mooching/borrowing. It’s hosted here at Stuff as Dreams are Made on, though it was inspired by Debi’s Blame Game and Deslily’s Top Five Reasons it’s your fault. If you’re playing along with Bad Bloggers, please leave a link to your page via the Mr. Linky here! Details on Bad Bloggers can be found by clicking on the Bad Bloggers icon in the sidebar.

badbloggers1. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs – I went back and forth, back and forth on this one and then finally decided…you know what? I’m going to read it! And I’m glad I decided that…I only read the first chapter so far, but it looks good! And the cover is hot 😉 Thanks to Kailana for convincing me I should give it a go! Point for Kailana.

2. The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum – Shadow Mountain sent me an ARC of this one and I’m super excited about it! I’ve loved pretty much everything that Shadow Mountain has put out, so I’m sure this one will be no different! It’s on the list for the Once Upon a Time Challenge so I should be reporting soon on it!

3. Ratha’s Creature by Clare Bell – Read Nymeth’s review of this series and it sounds so good!!! I love animals and love fantasy, so I’m sure to love this first book in the Named series. The first point of Nymeth’s for the week!

4. The Love We Share Without Knowing by Christopher Barzak – Psyched about this one! Nymeth get’s another point for this one. I’ve had his first book, One for Sorrow on my list for a long time…sadly, I still haven’t read it. This one looks fantastic though and takes place in Japan…a setting I always love.

5. Sweethearts by Sara Zarr – Maybe I should just start reading whatever Nymeth reads :p The truth is, I bought this one before she even reviewed it knowing after she mentioned it that I’d probably enjoy it. I’ve been wanting to read something by her for awhile now and this looks like a good start…third point for Nymeth!

6. Wicked by Gregory Maguire – So this one has been on my wishlist for about 5 years now, but never a top priority…I found it on Bookmooch and decided, what the hell…I’ll get it!

7. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta – This was an impulse mooch! I’ve been wanting to read Marchetta’s Printz winning Jellicoe Road but have had bad luck finding it. When I read the blurb for this book, I figured I’d really enjoy it! Looks good.

8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney – I still don’t really know why I bought this book…I really don’t. But I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about it and all of the kid-lit-ers were all excited about the new one, so I figured I’d give it a go…I’ll report!

9. 50 Ways to Buy Fair Trade by Miles Lavinoff and John Madeley – Debi reviewed this one and I put it onto my wishlist! Then she gave her copy away and I won it! Score! Point for Debi.

I’ll be updating the site for a few days, and the newest update over here is the store! I’ve added a list of books that I highly recommend everyone read and then a list of books that I really want to read. Enjoy browsing over there!

And finally, I’m watching the Twilight movie right now and….it’s so bad. The acting is horrible! I mean, I know they didn’t have the greatest of source material to work with (though I have to admit that I enjoyed it), but the movie seems even more cliche/”oh brother” than the book was. And the Cullen’s are really not attractive. Weren’t they supposed to be like the most gorgeous beings in the world? I really don’t find any of them that good looking in the movie…oh well…I paid $4.99 to rent it, I’m going to finish it!

  1. The Patricia Briggs books are really good!! I read both Moon Called and Blood Bound and really loved them. I even have a copy of Iron Kissed waiting for OUaT. I hope you enjoy all the “loot” you picked up this week. If you do move, you are going to need a U-haul just for your books!!

  2. Hi Chris.. I’ve been eyeing The Diary of a Wimpy Kid for sometime for my little boys, but once I browsed the first pages and decided I’m the one who’ll be enjoying it the most, for sure, lol. Btw, the permalink for each post is blank except for the tags and the comments. I’m not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to be? Your posts can only be read on the home page, but there are no links to post a comment there, on the other hand.

  3. Steph, Great! Can’t wait to read them!! I really am going to need a uhaul.

Claire, Thanks for pointing that out to me!! I totally missed that…and now I don’t know how to fix it!!! This sucks. And the forums are really no help for the html/scripting challenged 😦 Grrrrr….such a pain. Ok…I’m off to bed. I’ll try to figure it out more tomorrow.

  4. Fantastic loot! I hope you enjoy them all. You know, for some reason I probably wouldn’t have picked up Patricia Briggs on my own, but Rhinoa picked it for our challenge, so I’ll have to read her now 😛 It sounds like a series I’ll enjoy, though.

I hope you manage to fix the permalinks thing!

  5. 50 Reasons looks good. I really, really liked Sweethearts! And yeah, Nymeth is responsible for a lot of books on my wishlist.

  6. well your book sale room is off and running! sheesh…you will fill your server pretty quick! lol.. now you have to back up your server eachday???? how does that work?

  7. Oooh, another big week for Nymeth! Like anyone’s surprised about that. 😉

My kids have read more of those books than I have…how sad is that? (On my part, that is.) Annie loved both Ratha’s Creature and Sweethearts. And Gray, who is somewhat of a reluctant reader (except when it comes to non-fiction) LOVES, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books…he’s read them all several times.

Oh, and hey, should I like up my blame post?

  8. I am so glad that you are taking a chance on Patricia Briggs! I look forward to your thoughts on the books…

  9. Please, I actually went to a theater to see Twilight – talk about a total waste of $. And I agree, Edward Cullen comes off as creepy, not really all that good looking.

  10. Nymeth, Same thing here! Kailana talked me into getting it and I’m glad she did 😉 I hope I fix the permalinks too 😦 No one can link to me right now!

Lenore, I can’t wait to read both of those…they really do sound excellent!

Deslily, I have no idea yet 😦 LOL…there’s so much I still have to learn!!

Debi, Yeah, that doesn’t surprise anyone, lol. Ratha’s creature looks really cool! You need to start pulling off of your kids’ shelves. I’m thrilled to hear that Gray likes the Wimpy Kid books so much! Maybe I’ll enjoy them now 😉

Kailana, Can’t wait to read Briggs! I know I’ll like it!

Stephanie, Glad to hear I’m not alone on that one! The acting was so bad, it was so overdone, so dramatic, and Edward was ugly…just didn’t work lol!

  11. I saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid in bookstore a few times and had the chance to browse through. It did look interesting! Wicked has been on my wishlist for ages too. Haven’t got a chance to read or get my hands on it just yet.
