Mailbox Monday, Bad Bloggers, A Giveaway, and a Squee!

Originally, I was only going to have 1 book to talk about this week, The Terror by Dan Simmons…but then I went to Borders today…we all know how that works, right? I went to Borders to get Colleen Gleason’s new book, As Shadows Fade, sadly, the last book in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. But I’m so excited about it! And they had it! Seeing as it’s in the romance section with a very beautiful, yet very romance-y cover, I had to get something else to disguise it right? After all, I’m a guy buying a “romance” novel. So I headed on over to the sci-fi fantasy section and…well…I bought 3 more books. One to give away (see below) and 2 for me! On to Bad Bloggers:

1. The Terror by Dan Simmons – I won this one from Alyce!! I was so excited to win this one. I’ve been wanting it badly ever since reading Susan’s review of it. Seriously, read that review and see if you can escape putting it right onto your wishlist. Yes, Susan gets a point for this one!

2. Suzy, Led Zeppelin and Me by Martin Millar – What can I say? I just fell in love with Martin Millar after reading The Good Fairies of New York and now I just can’t get enough. Had to get this one when I saw that it was in stock!

3. Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey – Two reasons for buying this one: A.) The massive volume of the first three books all put together that I have is just too intimidating and the print is too small. I figured that that’s the reason why I haven’t continued on with this excellent series. B.) I wanted an excuse to give Deslily a point for recommending this excellent series :p Point to Pat!

4. As Shadows Fade by Colleen Gleason – Any readers of this series have been awaiting this book in as much anticipation as me, I’m sure. So how thrilled was I today to walk into Borders and see that it was released a day early!! Of course I snagged up my copy. This was the sole reason that I went to the bookstore, and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed! A point to Colleen for writing such an addicting series and making me buy her books šŸ˜€

moonheart1If by some chance you haven’t realized it yet, it’s the Book Giveaway Carnival! I wanted to be a part of this one too, so I looked for something that I really enjoyed today at Borders. And I found it! Moonheart by Charles de Lint! It’s my favorite book of de Lint’s that I’ve read so far and I really want someone else to enjoy it as well. If you’re interested, all you have to do to win is leave a comment in this post letting me know! I’ll draw a winner on Sunday. Also, I haven’t forgotten about the Book Dart’s giveaway that I was doing, I just can’t find book darts anywhere šŸ˜¦ I’ll think of something else to give away instead of those.

And finally, the squee! Colleen told me about this awhile ago, but I didn’t believe her :p Ā I have a mini review in her new book! You know, the little “praise for past books” in the front cover? Well open the cover and you’ll see this on the first page (that’s me all the way at the bottom):

  1. Oh my freakin’ god…how unbelievably awesome is that?!!! šŸ˜€

Only four books this week? Are you feeling okay? šŸ˜‰

And definitely enter me for the giveaway…thanks!!!

  2. OMG! Squeee indeed šŸ˜€ Very very exciting! My turn to be proud of YOU!

Yeah, only 4 books…shame on you, Chris šŸ˜› I definitely want to read The Terror too. It’s been on my wishlist since Susan’s and other RIP reviews. And the Martin Millar too, of course. I really should get his other books.

Also, please do enter me for the giveaway…can’t go wrong with De Lint!

  3. Oh congrats!!! Now you’re immortalized in print! Forever!

  4. I’d love to be entered in the contest, thanks.
And congrats on the other! That is so cool. I’d love to have that happen to me šŸ™‚

  5. Someday I want to be a blurb.

Congratulations and please enter me. I’ve been reading many good things about de Lint lately.

  6. SQUUUEEEEE! Yes indeedy.

  7. I’m I guy I do not squee! Saying that….

    Squuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! šŸ˜€

Oh wow, that is very cool, Chris!

  8. OMG! that is certainly worth a squee! and what a great idea for authors to put blubs from blogs! One can’t get a more honest opinion of a book than from a blog! (from someone not paid!)

Ahhh Dragon Quest!! that is a bad blogger point to be proud of ! Then on to The White Dragon which is the best of the three books! This is not to say the first two are not good.. there isn’t one of the three i’d give up! McCaffrey is soooo damn good at character building and land building… you can’t help but like the books!

thank you for that point ! I look forward to the next Pern Point!

  9. Debi, I know! I was so freaking excited! lol.. and yes…sadly only four books…but I have a feeling next week will be much worse šŸ˜‰

Nymeth, Isn’t that cool? I’m waiting for your blog to start popping up on books around the world :p I had never heard anything about Suzy, Led Zeppelin and Me…I only knew it existed. But when I read the back cover description of it, well, I had to have it!

Other Chris, And how perfect that I get immortalized in a book about vampires? :p

Becky, I’m shocked that you haven’t been quoted in a book yet! I’m sure your time is coming šŸ™‚

CBJames, And one day you shall šŸ˜‰ De Lint is fantastic! I’m glad he’s been getting some blog love lately.

    Stormfilled, Yes!

Bart, Nor do I, but this was squee worthy :p

  10. Deslily, Isn’t it awesome? I totally agree with you. I find book bloggers’ (and other readers’) opinions to be the most honest and trust worthy. We read because we love it! Not because we’re getting paid. Though I don’t think that book reviewers (who are paid) read only for that reason. Obviously, they love to read too. I knew you’d be proud of the point for Pern šŸ˜‰ I’ll be buying a copy of The White Dragon too and you’ll get a point again :p And I’m so excited to get to that one! I know how much you love it!

  11. Man, I was excited when she thanked me in the acknowledgements. Having a part of your review in there is even more awesome! I can understand the squee!

I’m a girl, and you know… I have to get something else to go with Colleen’s books when I buy them. I am just not a romance novel reader, so it is more for me than the people working!

And, wow, that’s like no books at all! Are you sick? Oh, enter me in the give-away, though. Mind you, last time I won a book from you I still don’t think I have read the book, but that’s nothing new for me.

And, I owe you an email. I’ll try to get to it tonight. I was going to say more, but I will be nice. lol

  12. Want to know something funny. This post in my reader shows up directly above My Friend Amy’s “Let’s Talk About Book Endorsements” post. It’s like a two for one! That’s really cool!

  13. Kelly, I was beyond excited, lol. Even more excited than when I was in the acknowledgements. You have to let me know what you buy next time you buy a Colleen Gleason book šŸ˜‰ I hate going down that romance aisle! What book did you win from me in the past? I don’t remember…I’m bad about these things, lol. Take your time on the email…I have a post scheduled for tomorrow already, so no rush! I just emailed you again by the way…on a separate subject.

Natasha, I know! Right after I posted, I went to check my google reader and found that post. I cracked up laughing :p It’s great to see that Book Bloggers are getting a bigger voice, isn’t it?

  14. Dude! That’s so cool. Both being in the book, and the fact that you bought such a bosomy book. šŸ˜‰

Oh, and Charles de Lint? Yes please.

  15. Softdrink, It is indeed a nice bosom, isn’t it šŸ˜‰ Great book by the way so far!

  16. Wow, SQUEE indeed.

I just loved Moonheart. You don’t need to enter me in the competition as I have it already. Happy reading.

  17. Wow, cool. Congratulations! šŸ˜€

  18. squee is right!!!! how cool is that?!?!
