Friday Fill-Ins and The Letter Meme

1. Please don’t tell the library that I have no intentions of giving back The Polysyllabic Spree…it’s mine dammit, mine!.

2. Can you wake me up in the morning? Because I sure as hell won’t wake up on my own after this week!

3. The color Octarine makes me want to read more Discworld books!

4. I have a craving for falafel.

5. If my life had a pause button, I’d pause it when I have a day off of work to read and no migraine…but then if life were paused, I couldn’t really read, could I?.

6. Eyes are the looking glass to the world! I always loved that saying.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to getting off of work at 11, tomorrow my plans include laying in bed and reading and Sunday, I want to still be laying in bed and reading!

Jill at Fizzy Thoughts had done this really fun meme where you’re given a letter and have to list 10 things that you love that start with that letter! So I asked for a letter and the great and wise fizzy beverage bestowed upon me the letter “M”. So, I give you 10 things I love that start with the letter “M”:

1. Murakami – As in Haruki Murakami. He’s an author that I can see myself quickly devouring everything he’s written. Sadly, I’ve only read 2 books of his…Norwegian Wood which is absolutely amazing (one of my favorite books) and After Dark which was quite good itself. I have The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle to read next! I’m also a big fan of In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami, so we can count him in this one too :p

2. Muffins – Particularly, the cranberry orange muffins at PJ’s, a local coffee shop that I worked at for a long time. They’re even better when they’re fresh out of the oven!

3. Mom – Yes, I’m a momma’s boy. But when you have a mom as wonderful as mine, it’s easy to be.

4. Music – My life really revolves around music. I could make this a verrrrrrrry long item by listing some of my favorites, but I won’t. Just know that I love music. Anything really aside from rap and country, but then again there’s even some of that that I enjoy.

5. Megan – Megan and I split up awhile ago, but we’ll always be at the least close friends. I can’t imagine not having her in my life with all that we’ve been through and all that we share.

6. Manatees – Just because they’re cool…save them.

7. Maps – Old maps in particular. They’re just so cool. You know what’s even better? Finding a map inside of a fantasy book! I always get so excited when I do 🙂

8. Macaroni and Cheese – Seriously, one of my favorite foods.

9. Macs – I’m obsessed ever since I got my Macbook. If I could make babies with it, I might…too much information? Really?

10. Modesty – I like it, but apparently I lack it.

Do you want to play too? Just let me know in the comments and I’ll send you a letter!

  1. I love, love, love Discworld!! The Luggage could be my favorite character in fiction ever. Seriously. And I’m getting impatient to read the Hornby books. I see nothing but fabulous reviews of them.

And how cool it is that you and your former girlfriend are still close! I love things like that.

    Have a good weekend, Chris!

  2. I can’t count how many times this post had me laughing out loud! Starting right off with your comment about The Polysyllabic Spree.

I really, really loved your list!!! Any idea how big the “Awwww” was when I read #3?!! That’s the just the kind of thing that can melt any mom’s heart. I really hope your mom has occasion to read it!

I already asked Kim for a letter, but can I come back and ask you for one I don’t like? 😉

  3. Uh…that was supposed to read “but can I come back and ask you for one if she gives me one I don’t like?”

  4. The Spree is teh precioussss!!11

This is probably the time to tell you that after the first few books, the whole concept of Octarine was pretty much dropped from the series 😛 Look on the bright side, though. It would probably have gotten old otherwise.

lol, I love your M list! Even the tmi bit 😛

  5. Do you know “Endangered Love” by the Veggie Tales?

    I’d love a letter 🙂

And if you love music, you might be interested in my new challenge 🙂

  6. Hahaha, lots of laughs in this one! I love that comment about The Polysyllabic Spree (don’t blame you — I own a copy; Nick Hornby is all kinds of awesome) and I think it’s great that you’re a momma’s boy. My youngest is my momma’s boy and I think he’s such a sweetheart. Eldest is Mr. Independent And Don’t You Try to Tell Me Anything. I love him, too, but he doesn’t make it easy!!

Hope your migraine’s gone. Mine is kind of hovering. Blecch. I’m going to go outside to forget about myself and see if I can spot something interesting. Have a great weekend!

  7. Like everyone else, this post made me laugh a lot! I think it’s hilarious how possessive you get over library books. :p Although I have to admit, I’m almost done with The Consolations of Philosophy, and I totally want to keep it. 😀

  8. OMG, whenever I’m posting on your blog, I always accidently hit the ‘submit comment’ button before I mean to. Isn’t that weird?! Anyway, I wanted to say that I loved your M list too! My mom would definitely be on my list, and muffins are awesome! (my favourites are bran-from a recipe my mom has that everyone loves-and pumpkin oatmeal). And Mac n’ Cheese is the best…as long as it’s Kraft, of course. None of those Velveeta Shells. :p

  9. Lezlie, I love discworld too, but sadly I’ve only read one book in the series! I have the second waiting for me though! I’ll have another raving review of the Hornby book that you can add to the list 😉 Getting ready to type it up. It should post on Sunday. I think me and Megan will always be close. We were together for 7 years, so it would be really hard to throw that away!

Debi, Well I sure am glad that I could put a smile on your face today! 😀 I’ll call mom over to come read the post..I’m sure she’d like it, lol. And you can absolutely have another letter if you don’t like what Kim gives you!

Nymeth, It certainly is the precious….MY precious, lol. Not the library’s. I won’t be too upset about Octarine being a lost theory…In fact, I had to google it to remember what it was! And I’m glad that someone appreciates my TMI, lol!

Becky, I do not! I’ll have to check it out! And since you seem to like that song, I’ll have to give you the letter “E” oooh, that may be a hard one! I just saw your new challenge! It looks very cool!!

Nancy, I’m glad I could make you laugh 🙂 I try to be Mr. Independent too sometiimes, but it doesn’t really work…nope….I’ll always be a momma’s boy, lol. My migraine is indeed gone! I hope that yours leaves you completely soon Nancy! Hopefully it takes the weekend off.

Eva, Glad it made you laugh 🙂 I do get quite possessive over my books, lol…maybe that’s why I don’t go to the library too often, I just don’t want to send the books back! That’s hilarious that you hit the submit button early all the time! You’re just over excited about commenting, lol. Yum! I want pumpkin muffins now! Oh, and want to know how to make mac and cheese even better? Add a packet of ramen noodle seasoning! So good!

  10. E is good actually 🙂 I’ll post soon!

  11. Well, now that I think about…it…I can only think of three things not ten…can I have a backup letter???

  12. Sure Becky! Let’s do “R” as your backup letter!

  13. Okay, I’ve done it. I even had a few spares after all 🙂

    Letter E Meme

  14. […] saw this meme at Chris’ site. He assigned me the letter E. You have to list ten things you love that start with your […]

  15. Dang, I did give you a good letter. Go me.

I love muffins…we have a local bakery, Splash, that makes some awesome flavors.

Mac ‘n cheese is also a personal favorite. Trader Joes makes amazing frozen mac ‘n cheese, which is hard to believe.

When I was a teenager my room was plastered with maps from National Geo.

Obviously, we both have excellent taste. 😉

  16. Nice list! I just discovered Murakami, I’ve only read Norwegian Wood so far but it was amazing! Love Mac and Cheese too, just discovered that recently as well!

  17. I hope you are feeling better….I am. Kind of funny how the migraine thing was going around!!

Your list made me laugh. I love Mac & Cheese too. Scary, but I don’t think I could live without it!!

And music. How funny….I just did a Sunday Salon post on how much music is a part of my life!

  18. Oh I’m so glad you ae enjoying the Polysyllabic Spree. I’m glad I bought a copy. I found it quite fun reading it to get recommendations then reading it again after I had read the books he recommended! (and its always time for falafel!)

I’ll take a letter! As long as it’s not Z!!

  19. You know, I’ll take a letter too!

  20. I’ll take a letter, too, please! 🙂

Really coveting The Spree now.. and I love your post about your mom.. also maps in fantasy books.. love them!

  21. Softdrink, You really did give me a good letter 😀 This was so much fun! I’m now going to have to look for Trader Joes mac and cheese. I want some now! Yes, yes, we do have GREAT taste 😉

Marmiteandtea, Just discovering mac and cheese?! Lucky you! lol…wasn’t Norwegian Wood great? I just love that book.

Steph, I’m feeling much, much better. Thanks! Hope you are too. It was really weird that we were all having migraines. Can’t wait to read your salon!

Mariel, I loved the spree! It was awesome. Review will be up tomorrow. And a letter…hmm, since Becky didn’t use “R”, you can have that one 🙂

Kailana, Yay! Ok, you get the letter “T”

Claire, This is fun, lol…ok, so you can have the letter “F”. The Spree is fantastic!! You’ll love it. My review will be up tomorrow.

  22. okay, did it!

  23. It is a great post but I was trying to stay away from this letter thing…

But what the heck. I’ll take a “…”, Pat.

Man, I hope that translates as well as I think it does…

  24. CJ, I got it Vanna 😉 Lets assign you an…..”L”…how’s that work?

  25. Haha! Glad you’re enjoying The Polysyllabic Spree.
Love your M list, mmm.. cranberry muffins, mac and cheese.. I think I’m hungry!

  26. Great letter and great idea. My list is up and it was a bit harder than I thought it would be.

Hey, what screen name do you use over at pogo? I’ve been playing over there quite a bit lately – Cjian1 – if you’re so inclined. I tend to hang out playing yahtzee as of late.

  27. Did the letter F.. thanks, Chris!
